Our chaise lounge and pedestal in hand-carved wood and Italian fabric, for example, evokes the memory of Old Europe. You can almost picture an empire builder like Cecil Rhodes reclining in this fine piece as he sips brandy and contemplates his next strategic move in the colonial powers’ “Scramble for Africa.” Our many gorgeously crafted chandeliers, in Bohemian crystal and Venetian Murano glass, take you even further back, to a time when breathtaking artisanship had not yet succumbed to crass commercialism. To stand beneath one of these chandeliers is to imagine what it was like when the first cathedrals were being erected all over Europe, and the dark and musty churches of old were replaced by grand spaces filled with light that poured through those iconic stained glass windows.
